Neighborhood Observation

11/11/2014 in New York

I woke up, cleaned the apartment, waiting for Anna to come back.

For breakfast, I walked on Atlantic Ave., got a flat sesame bagel toasted with butter and a small coffee. The man occupying the seat by the window left, I sat down, the sun all a sudden becomes so vibrant, it doesn’t feel like Tuesday anymore, but a nice Sunday morning. This bagel house has been a place I wanted to try since last visit; adjacent to Clinton St., right next to the tea shop owned by a British man where I was about to get some green jasmine for mom.

I like to take my mornings either relaxing at a slow pace or fast to feel accomplished.

Looking outside the window, it’s an interesting mixture of people. Many different ethnicities, age ranges are presented. A few grandpa looking men walked passed by, with the kindest looks on their faces. By the manner of how people dressed, interacting with each other, the stuff in their grocery bags, the income level in the neighborhood is greatly varied. Other details, if they’re walking a dog, if a nanny is hired behind the strollers, or simply the look on people’s faces. If they’re content or stressed, which I observed as the most common expressions on New Yorkers’ faces besides the popular poker face mask.

I think I can sit at any window seat by the corner, observing people, cars, surroundings for a whole day; several days later, come up with a “corner observation dairy”. But that wasn’t my motive at the moment, I’d like to be on the move. So I left shortly after finishing the last sip of coffee.
